Raw Material Operation

There is a skin and hide store at the goat and sheepskin and bovine site. This can contain up to 200,000 salted pieces as slaughter is spasmodic due to periods of fasting and feasts, and holding times can extend up to three months as the temperature is moderate. Deliveries are both from abattoirs with in the region that have been graded to national standards, but also from long established small scale collection routes. If national standards are not met, then the pieces are pulled out and sent back to the dealers. In addition to four weight grades, the skins and hide are segregated according to hair color-black, brown, and white. Although, skins are bleached before tanning using both chlorine dioxide (generated in situ) and permanganate, this raw selection assists consistency with in dyeing operations.
